EASY WAYS TO MAKE YOUR LIFE A LITTLE GREENER

What can I do to go green? If you are like me, you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend and are looking for frugal and simple ways to change. I came across a list on a blog recently about a few simple and easy ways to make you life a little greener. These are a few that we are working on…

Green Bag It
Try to minimize your use of plastic bags, and if you use them take them back to the store and recycle them. If you’re going to the mall don’t get a bag at every store, there is no reason to have five bags with one thing in them. At our local IKEA store we bought a bag for .50 cents and use it every time we go. I love it, it’s huge and I can take it everywhere and use it for everything!

Take a Power Shower
I learned this the hard way; our nephew was staying with us and would take an hour long shower. Sometimes I would knock on the door to see if he was asleep. We changed our shower heads for a more eco-friendly one; we also changed the shower head in our bathroom for one that has several heads that have an option to close. That way we have the option to use 1, 2 or all three shower heads.
The water department in our city will even give you a credit towards the purchase of a new one or exchange yours.

Ditch Plastic Water Bottles
Make your life greener, ditch the plastic water bottles and pick up a cute reusable one. Yes they are accessible and easy, but they are also harmful and expensive. While pregnant I would go thru 2 cases of 24 bottles a week. That’s a staggering 1,920 bottles. How many do you use?

Computer Shutdown
My husband told me this one. They are trying to conserve energy and money at his office. He has been able to lower his light bill by half. He turns off the computers and printers and air conditioning at the end of every day.

Dress up your table
Use cloth napkins instead of paper. I realized how many I was using when I watched my 4 yr old nephew for a week. Between my daughter and nephew we went thru a bag of 500 napkins in a week. It’s amazing how many times they spilled something or knocked something over. I ripped up and old sheet that we didn’t use, and stored them in the pantry.
